ScintiStar Mammo is designed with both patient comfort and high quality imaging in mind. Both are accomplished by allowing the patient to lay in a prone position on a padded table which facilitates comfort and allows the breast to hang freely between the ScintiStar Mammo's detectors, there is no compression of the breast which is a vast improvement in comfort over other imaging techniques. The detectors are located beneath the table and rotate around the breast to gather data.

The design of the ScintiStar Mammo also allows the detectors to be placed closer to the breast enabling more efficient scanning of the breast as the detectors will receive data at a higher count rate. In the world of nuclear imaging the higher the count rate, the quicker the scan. The Mammo System scans patients in a very short amount of time, translating to happier patients and an increased capability for imaging facilities to scan more patients in a shorter timeframe.

In addition to the close proximity of the detectors to the breast, the PET/SPECT and CT detectors themselves are high resolution. This is a great advancement in terms of allowing medical professionals to accurately detect the presence of cancer and its location within the breast.
